Our Story

Spoke 'n' Beans is a bike-powered initiative run by Cory, Darren and Kati, to expose Blacksburg residents to fresh, locally roasted coffee beans by the Strange Coffee Company. Our story starts in August, 2010, when the three of us, graduate students at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, needed a break. Lovers of all things craft (food, beverage, bikes), we looked up from our books at the Easy Chair Coffee Shop and started talking to coffee roasters, Brian Babcock and Russell Chisholm. Coffee delivery by bike was a no-brainer, and hence Spoke 'n' Beans was born.

With our Strange partners, we fairly purchase, locally roast, and pedal the best beans in Blacksburg. Our coffees are purchased directly from farms in Brazil, Columbia, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica - we believe in fair wages for all coffee growers and sustainable farming practices (shade grown and organic) - and wherever possible, offer coffees that are a product of the highest responsible standards.

We are currently attempting to add other goods to our delivery scheme. Produce and other products (jams, peanut butter, flowers, soaps, etc.) from the Blacksburg Farmers Market will soon be available for delivery to your home on Saturdays. A weekly inventory of available goods will be found on our website soon! Jessica Shultz, a Blacksburg resident and owner of Find-a-Way Bake and Crochet, will also be offering her bread products for delivery through Spoke 'n' Beans.
